Germany visa insurance

What is the first question for a tourist who is going on a trip to Germany? That's right: how to quickly get a visa. Germany is part of the Schengen zone, which means that without a Schengen visa you will not be able to walk the streets of Munich, have fun at Oktoberfest and taste real Bavarian beer. An important role here is played by insurance for a visa to Germany - it is included in the mandatory package of documents that the consulate will require for issuing a visa. How to get the right insurance?

Insurance requirements for obtaining a visa to Germany

As with any other Schengen country, Germany visa insurance has a number of requirements:

  • The insured amount is not less than 30 thousand euros (according to the requirements of Russian legislation, the insured amount of all ERV policies is 40 thousand euros) - it should be enough for basic treatment if you get sick on a trip.

  • The term of the insurance policy is the number of days of the trip and another 15 days after its end (the policy is extended free of charge) in case you have to stay for treatment abroad.

  • The coverage includes medical expenses for treatment, transportation and repatriation home.

  • The territory of the policy is all Schengen countries. If you want to cross the border and see a neighboring country, there will be no problems with visa and insurance.

  • A valid insurance company accreditation at the German embassy or consulate where you are applying for a visa.

  • One more condition: travel insurance must be issued for all participants in the trip, including children.

The cost of obtaining a medical insurance policy

Several factors affect the cost of travel insurance for a Schengen visa to Germany:

  • insurance period;

  • the chosen insurance program;

  • insurance amount;

  • the age of the insured;

  • number of insured persons;

  • extreme sports.

Visa insurance in ERV does not provide for increasing coefficients for children, but travelers over 65 will have to pay twice as much for insurance, over 85 years - 4 times more. In addition, you can additionally take out cancellation insurance - its price is 5% of the tour cost.

What documents are required to apply for health insurance?

Medical insurance for obtaining a visa to Germany does not require a large package of documents - you only need a passport and a bank card to pay for the policy. You can buy medical insurance for a visa to Germany on the ERV website. It does not take much time to arrange insurance, and immediately after payment, the insurance policy will be sent to your mail. Print it out and take it with you on your trip.

What are the risks covered by the insurance?

Insurance to Germany for a visa under the Standard Plus program provides for the payment of medical expenses for:

  • treatment of sudden illness or exacerbated chronic illness, sunburn and allergies;

  • treatment of injuries sustained during active recreation;

  • assistance for complications of pregnancy up to 24 weeks on the date of the event;

  • search and rescue, transportation and posthumous repatriation.

Medical insurance for obtaining a visa to Germany under the "OPTIMA" program has an extended list of risks: assistance to a pregnant woman will be provided for up to 31 weeks, and in case of premature birth, the insurance also covers the care of a newborn within the limit (10,000 €). In addition, the program includes treatment for injuries resulting from alcohol, drug and toxic intoxication, as well as luggage and liability insurance.

For multiple trips and obtaining a multivisa, the OPTIMA-Multi and OPTIMA-Annual programs are more suitable: they are designed for travel for 180 days and provided that each of them does not exceed 91 days.

How do I use insurance?

If you need medical attention while traveling to Germany, you can apply for it through an insurance company or on your own. For mild fever, toothache, or other benign symptoms, call your insurance company's Service Center. His numbers are on the insurance policy and insurance information. Tell the operator your last name, first name, insurance policy number, location, contact phone number, what happened and what assistance is required. An employee of the Service Center will direct you to a medical facility, call an ambulance or arrange for a doctor to arrive.

Can't get through to the Service Center or is there an emergency? Call an ambulance through the hotel or locals. Payment for treatment can be resolved from the hospital or you can pay for treatment yourself. Collect all the medical records that the hospital will give you:

  • medical statement indicating the diagnosis, examination results, prescribed treatment;

  • a paid invoice indicating the list of services rendered and their cost and date of provision;

  • prescriptions for medicines;

  • documents confirming the fact of payment for medical and other services, medicines;

insurance policy, claim for reimbursement of expenses and bank statement with the recipient's account details.
