The email that draws attention to your resume. Optimization guide

How can you tell the difference when the recruiter has 100 emails from the candidates? The subject of the e-mail is the first impression you make on the recruiter, and its content is a short CV. If the information is also masterfully arranged and well adapted to the job, I can differentiate you. Communicate from the start who you are, what job you are applying for, and show what qualifies you for the job. Here's how you can do it!

The title of the e-mail

Keep a short title, up to 50 characters long with spaces, so that the recruiter knows from the start what position you are applying for, but is also interested in opening the e-mail. Also keep in mind that the email can be opened from your mobile phone, especially if you send it outside of business hours, so a maximum of 25 characters is ideal for your entire message to be read.

How To Get An Attractive Email Title

Use keywords - Highlight the title of the job you are applying for.

Be short and relevant - In order to capture the attention of recruiters, it is good that the subject of the email says exactly what job you are applying for. Avoid vague topics such as: "CV", "CV Mihai Popescu", "CV for recruitment" or "I'm looking for a job".

Mention the distinctive qualification - The subject of the e-mail can be the place to differentiate yourself from other candidates. If the job description mentions a qualification that you have, do not hesitate to mention it in the title of the e-mail. Acronyms such as: MBA (Master in Business Administration - trad.), PPC Certificate (pay per click - trad.) Are also allowed in the subject of e-mail.

Recommendations -If a mutual friend recommended you to the recruiter, do not hesitate to mention this aspect in the title. Thus, you will give credibility to your application.

Also attractive are the headlines:  "The future COO of the company" or "10 years of experience as Chief Financial Officer".

Email Address

One of the eJobs rules that makes your resume matter to employers says, "Score at first glance!" Send your resume to a professionally done email address. Any email address that goes from first and last name can be professional. As funny as it is, you can't leave the impression that you are a professional if you recommend yourself to a potential employer with the address: papuselulvesel@gmail.com.

The content of the e-mail

Use a personal but professional address for the recruiter. It's good to know his name so you can personalize the message. It is best to choose two or three sentences from the letter of intent that show your qualification, but also the achievements that qualify you for the job. Avoid the wording of the form: “Attached you will find my CV. Please consider it. " It is best to detail: “I have attached my CV for the position of the design engineer. I have 10 years of experience in the field, during which time I achieved technical documentation and over 1,000 projects for civil and industrial constructions. My portfolio includes X & Y buildings. I have certification for the German language and I worked for five years in Germany on an international construction project ”. Use short sentences and develop an idea in each of them. Pay attention to the spaces and highlight certain ideas to make your message easy to read.

The format of the attached document

Choose to send your CV and cover letter in a format that can be opened by most recruiters, preferably PDF. The eJobs.ro CV can be downloaded in this format. Avoid txt, rtf formats that can cause problems when opening the document, and your resume will not be displayed correctly. ”

Mistakes to avoid:

  • Give up CAPS Lock even if the job title is spelled that way. In an attempt to attract attention, some candidates use capital letters in the title or even the exclamation mark. It's like talking to recruiters in an imperative tone, and the effect may not be as expected.

  • The formal titles: " Mihai's CV" are totally unprofessional.

  • Untitled emails show a lack of concern for your image as a professional and in this case, you can't expect the recruiter to be concerned about your career.

  • Lack of attachments. There are also candidates who say in the body of the e-mail that they have attached the CV, but no document is attached. To make sure you don't miss this imported aspect, attach the documents before writing the email.

  • Grammar / Vocabulary Mistakes: Some emails start like this: "I would like to apply for the sales assistant job." A bug checker such as Spell Checker or a friend can be helpful in this case.

  • Quickly fill in the email address. There were also cases in which managers received their CVs from their employees, even though they were targeting another company. It is best to use a personal email address dedicated to applying for jobs, where the manager's address does not exist in the contacts.
