In a livestream on the official Twitch account of publisher Wizards of the Coast, associate brand manager Trevor Kidd announced that the “Dungeons and Dragons” MMO will also have a version for Sony’s current console, and is already in development. For those who are currently not familiar with the title, “Neverwinter” is an action-packed multiplayer online battle royale that is based on the popular “Dungeons and Dragons” world. First launched in 2013 for the PC, developer Cryptic Studios then decided to expand that title to include a console version. The Xbox One version of “Neverwinter” was launched in March this year. The game now has over 1.6 million players on the console, and it is already one of the Xbox One’s top free-to-play games for this year. At the time of the Xbox One release, though, the developer remained mum on any developments regarding a PS4 version. Although the Twitch announcement did not specify any other details such as the release dates or gameplay feature like console exclusives, the confirmation has some hardcore fans excited for the upcoming launch. When it is released for the Playstation 4, “Neverwinter” will be joining the Sony console’s impressive array of already-released massively multiplayer online titles, which include “The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited,” “Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn,” and “DC Universe Online.” Meanwhile, another title set in the “Dungeons and Dragons”‘ massive universe is also scheduled to be released later this year. Set as a character RPG platformer with new features such as a co-op dungeon exploring, “Sword Coast Legends” is expected to be launched in September for consoles and PC. Neverwinter, the free-to-play action MMORPG set in the Dungeons & DragonsForgotten Realms universe, is set to receive its seventh expansion pack. Titled Neverwinter: Strongholds, the new expansion introduces the largest playable map ever released for the game and focuses on players banding together to take back a stronghold that’s been overrun by the wild. In its initial release, the expansion will offer player-versus-environment gameplay in order to allow player guilds to build their strongholds before going into all-out warfare against other players in large-scale PVP battles with content that’s set to launch in September this year. According to the press release, the gameplay in Strongholds is reminiscent of early D&D gameplay, empowering guilds to reclaim a keep and its surrounding areas from monsters. Once these lands are cleared, guilds will construct defenses both in and around their newly acquired stronghold using structures like archer towers and siege structures.
