Organic and natural are terms that get thrown loosely in today's product labels. This makes it hard and sometimes even impossible for consumers to tell the difference between legitimately organic products and those that are only claiming to be natural and eco-friendly. How then can you tell the difference?

If you want to make sure that the mattress you are buying is indeed, organic, look for proper certification so you won't fall for false and empty claims.

Organic mattresses and beddings can never truly be 100% natural. Manufacturers, however, do all they can to keep the purity of their products using processes that ensure the least exposure to chemicals and synthetics that compromise the natural qualities of their organic materials. Because 100% organic products cannot exist, it should be easy to eliminate brands that claim such degree of purity in their products. Instead of obsessing over 100% organic components, keep an eye out for legitimate certifications that indicate their quality and compliance to well designed standards. Look for 98% pure product.

Certifications, on the other hand, are not the only things you should look for when inspecting product labels. To be sure that you are getting the quality you deserve, you should also educate yourself about the things that are supposed to go in your organic mattress. There are many "organic mattresses" claiming to be all-natural but contain non-organic components, like non-organic latex form in their support layer. These products would often have organic wool and organic cotton in various layers. Just because the majority of the components is organic, doesn't necessarily mean the product is organic as a unit. While these types of mattresses are not exactly unsafe to sleep on (they are in fact, a lot safer than traditional mattresses), you want the best value for your money.

Being a little more inquisitive about the make-up of the organic mattress you are buying will lead you to a high-quality, certified organic product that gives you the comfort and protection you deserve for the money you are paying. Always ask if all components of your mattress are as close to 100% natural as possible. While products can never be completely organic, manufacturers who follow certification standards do make them to be as close to their natural condition as possible by avoiding and eliminating the use of compromising materials and agents during production.
