Heating and Cooling Classes OverviewPosted by iticollege on April 27th, 2021 Many training institutes and apprenticeship programs offer heating and cooling classes as part of the training programs in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). These courses are a combination of hands-on training where the students learn the practical operations of the heating and cooling systems and theory coursework. It is a requirement to be a certified technician in some states, but in others, it is not mandatory. Technicians handling refrigeration, however, must be certified. Some of the common skills one will learn in heating and cooling classes include:
Common Courses Offered Under HVAC Training Programs This is a part of HVAC training programs that teaches students the fundamentals of electrical circuitry such as inductance, magnetism, and voltage. This course examines the control systems of heating and cooling systems. Equipment Installation Training in equipment installation is essential for an HVAC-R technician. Instructions include safety and testing training, troubleshooting, working with sheet metal fittings connecting to these units, in both commercial and residential structures. Communications Course It is imperative to have excellent communication skills when training for an HVAC technician course as you will often deal with people directly. Students learn speaking and writing skills and are instructed in word-processing, rhetorical methods, research, and grammar. Refrigeration Course This course teaches skills in the repair, draining, and charging of refrigeration units. It is offered in HVAC programs and when included is referred to as HVACR. Some programs offer Environmental Protection Agency certification once the course has been completed. Air Conditioning and Ventilation Systems Most HVAC programs will include operations, repair, and installations of air conditioning systems. Topics under this course include: geothermal units, air source, heat pumps, ventilation systems, operations, installations, and repair of different types of air conditioning systems. Some programs even go ahead and include basics on commercial and residential air conditioning units. Heating Systems The basics of heating systems are taught in heating and cooling classes. It includes topics such as principles of convection and conduction, radiant heat, heat transfer, airflow dynamics, testing equipment, ignition devices, oil and gas, and electric furnaces. Also included in the course is troubleshooting techniques as well as job safety principles. If you are looking for a training institute that will teach you the necessary skills to be competitive in the job market with an Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) Degree in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Electrical Technology, then ITI Technical College is your school of choice.
