4 Things All Lifters Should Do This Summer

Posted by GASP on May 20th, 2021

Summer is right around the corner, and with every new season comes new opportunities for growth. Bodybuilding is a year-round sport, so you can’t afford to sit on your laurels when there are plenty of gains to be made. Still, that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun this summer. From upgrading your wardrobe with no-compromise bodybuilding clothes to finding someone new to trade iron stories with, here are four things all lifters should do this summer.

Re-Establish Your Priorities

It’s the start of a new season, and that means it’s the perfect time to take a step back and look at the big picture. This critical time can almost feel like a bookmark, as if you’re finishing one chapter and turning the page with excitement to find out what comes next. So, ask yourself, what does come next? What kind of progress have you made over the last few months? How will you keep that momentum moving forward? This could also be a good time to consider whether you’ve secretly been stuck in a rut. If you have, acknowledge it, and plot a path forward. Essentially, use this moment as a checkpoint to identify your priorities and re-establish them as you move forward.

Try New Things

Life is too short to stick with the same training regimen day in and day out. While certain elements of your routine will stay the same, such as International Chest Day always falling on Monday, other things might change. Some months your goal is to bulk up; other months, you’re leaning out. Sometimes dumbbells might be the better choice over barbells. The opportunities to switch things up are endless. Take this summer as an opportunity to try new training styles and explore other areas of the fitness world.

Trade Iron Stories

Although weightlifting can sometimes feel like a solitary sport, many lifters enjoy the community aspect of the gym. Even if you prefer to work out solo, chances are there are some familiar faces in the gym you enjoy seeing. The bodybuilding community, both in-person and online, is vast and diverse, and there is plenty to learn from everyone. If you’ve never had a mentor in the iron sport before, consider connecting with a weight room veteran. Or, if you’re fairly experienced yourself, mentor a new lifter or encourage a friend to pursue weightlifting or start their own fitness journey. It’s a fulfilling feeling and can help you grow in more ways than just physically.

Suns Out, Guns Out

Summer weather is way too nice to keep yourself trapped inside the gym. While everyone is lucky enough to live near the famous Muscle Beach, chances are there might be an outdoor urban gym somewhere in your community. Even if you don’t have that option, hit up a local park and crank out an upper body workout on the chin-up bars. The possibilities are endless, so don’t wait—just get out there. It’s only going to get hotter out there as you move around, so make sure you’ve got bodybuilding clothing made with your comfort and physique in mind.
