Warriors leaders to woo Kevin Durant, crush NBA like bugs

That sound you hear is the rest of the NBA shuddering at the prospect of Kevin Durant joining the defending NBA champion Warriors.

Set to become a free agent after nine seasons in the league, the 27-year-old superstar — MVP of the league in 2014 and a four-time scoring champ — is determined to join a team that can contend for multiple titles immediately, the report said. The Warriors, already the NBA's best team, certainly qualify, and with the salary cap potentially rising to more than 0 million before the 2017-18 season, there could be a financial fit even at a  million annual salary.

Then the Warriors could graduate from dominant to downright untouchable.

Durant remains undecided about returning to Oklahoma City, according to The Vertical sources. Unless the Thunder win a championship, Durant almost certainly at least will test the free-agent waters.

Leaders in the Warriors' recruitment reportedly would be Draymond Green, one of Golden's State's leaders, and Stephen Curry, whose "spiritual" quality is believed to be appealing to Durant.

For the Warriors to land Durant, forwards Harrison Barnes (a restricted free agent) and Andre Iguodala most likely would need to depart. Otherwise, they have the flexibility to add Durant.

The Vertical also reported Durant's hometown team, the Wizards, will be serious suitors along with the Rockets, Heat and — in a bit of surprise — the Clippers. The Lakers, reported in the past as a potential destination, will be a long shot, according to report.
