American FactoryIf you are looking to feel great about the American Industry, this is the ideal documentary for you. This documentary is the very first title created under the higher ground banner. Higher Ground is a productions company that former US president, Barrack Obama, formed to support the film industry. They did it together with her wife, Michelle Obama. The documentary looks at the General Motors plant located in Dayton, Ohio. 2. Crip CampThe chances are, you have never heard about Camp Jened. It is a camp put in place for the disabled. It operated in New York between the 1950s and 1970s. Crip Camp will take you on an exhilarating ride. You will encounter some attendees fighting for the rights of the disabled across the country. Again, this film is produced by Higher Ground, with Jim LeBrecht being the director. Crip Camp will show you how the disabled finally got the freedom they used to lack. 3. Trial by MediaAre you into true-crime series? Then you will fall in love with everything about Trial by Media. With George Clooney being the executive producer, the documentary has a refreshing angle that is very captivating. This film is focused on touching the media and community reactions to real happenings. But this one focuses even on a larger societal context; such as how Amadou Diallo lost his life in 1999. 4. Mucho Mucho AmorWhat makes this a great doc is the fact that Mercado understood the actual value of showmanship. He looked more like a statue that came to life; something will also appreciate about him. Mucho Mucho Amor is quite a playful, yet bio-documentary that you can’t afford to miss this weekend. You will binge it without getting tired as it provides a lot of context and background info meant for the younger viewers. 5. I’m Not Your NegroThis documentary is about exploring racism via the stories of the likes of Malcom X, Medgar Evers, and Martin Luther King Jr. This documentary was released in 2016 and has been nominated for many international awards. It has a lot of things you need to see. For instance, it provides a perfect snapshot of James Baldwin’s important observations on American race relations. Once you are done watching, you will understand how far we still have to go. 6. Amazing GraceAmazing Grace is a rediscovered movie that was very popular in 1972. It is about the Himalayan guides who would do anything to support the climbers on Mount Everest. It also shows us about the harsh economic times and the impacts, more so around the world’s highest mountain. 8. I Called Him MorganI Called Him Morgan is not your ordinary documentary much like train DVDs. Lee Morgan has killed a Jazz musician and had served a prison sentence for decades. In this documentary, Helen carefully reflects on his legacy. If you have some love for the Jazz version of music, then you might want to watch this spectacular documentary.
