Theodor Seuss Geisel or better known by his pen name Dr. Seuss is one of the most celebrated authors of children's literature. Apart from being an author, Dr. Seuss was also popular as an illustrator, cartoonist and filmmaker. His unique writing and playful creatures have mesmerised and inspired children for generations.

Initially, Geisel faced numerous rejections from various publishers. But luck was on his side. Soon, through a friend who was an editor at Vanguard Press, his book called “ And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” was published in 1937. The story of the book revolves around yeh life of an ordinary boy and his ordinary yet fantastic and imaginative journey. However, success didn’t come instantly for this famous author. It took a couple of years more for Giesel to develop his unique writing style and establish himself as a reputed author.

One of his books was McElligot’s Pool about a boy who goes fishing. Looking at the river, he starts painting a beautiful marine world through his imagination. This marked the beginning of unusual characters that later became a hallmark of Dr Seuss’s books. Some other popular works of Dr. Seuss include The Cat in the Hat. As the name suggests, it is about an amusing cat who makes children laugh. With such a fascinating story, the book impressed its little audience all around the world.

Apart from providing riveting stories to children, Dr Seuss also made sure to inculcate good values in children through his work. For example, in 1971 he wrote this book called The Lorax in which he talks about forest cutting and environmental destruction. Other tales written by Giesel are: What Pet Should I Get?, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Fox in Stocks, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Horton Hears a Who, Green Eggs and Ham. These marvellous books will make your child fall in love with books. Don’t forget to include them on your bedtime stories list!

One of his most notable and most loved works is Oh, the Places You’ll Go. The inspirational story beautifully explores different aspects of life: joy, sadness,  challenges and struggles. To sum up life in a book with such humour and amusement is something that only Dr Seuss can do. Due to the eternal relevance of its theme and compelling illustrations, the book remains a best seller till this day. It is a particularly favourite choice of people for birthday gifts. So if you want to give something to your little friend, buy it without giving it a second thought.

Dr Seuss is the recipient of the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for his notable contribution in the field of children’s literature. He has inspired millions of children and parents for the last couple of decades. With over 600 millions copies sold worldwide, his work remains a best seller even today
