ACSR Conductors and Their Advantages

High voltage power transmission needs robust conductors. ACSR or Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced is one of such most used conductors for overhead transmission lines. The outstanding design of this conductor is the main reason why; it is transmitting high voltage electricity. The outer part of the conductor is made with aluminum and the core part is being made with steel. In this way, it conducts high power without any hassle.

According to experts, ACSR conductors can be made with steel outside and aluminum inside to provide extra strength. And, when the steel part will be galvanized, it will provide extra strength to withstand any type of harass weather. In this way, the corrosion on the mater can be easily prevented and the life of the conductors will be enhanced.

Application of ACSR conductors

Steel material provides strength to the ACSR conductors and they are placed inside. High strength ACSR conductors are mainly applicable for the overhead earth wires, installations relating to the extra-long spans, and river crossing. Manufacturers use a different types of tensile strength for making them perfect for different applications. Due to its high diameter, a higher radiance limit can be achieved.

Skin effect

When the current is transmitted through the conductor, the cross-sectional area of the conductor can be easily decreased through the skin effect. When the time comes for AC, maximum current flows outside and deepness of the skin. It mainly depends on the frequency of the current flow and the properties of the ACSR Dog Conductor. The reduced area of the conductor will increase the resistance this is because of the opposite relationship between the cross-sectional area of the conductor and resistance.

Skin effect helps a lot to design the conductor. It mainly causes to flow of the current in the low-resistivity aluminum direction to the exterior of the conductor.

Proximity effect

Once the AC goes the conductors, then the flow of the current in every conductor can be forced to smaller regions and in this way, the current flowing is called the proximity effect. However, this effect varies with a magnetic field that mainly powers the flow of electric current in a conductor because of the electromagnetic induction.

Hysteresis Loss

In the ACSR conductor, hysteresis losses mainly occur because of the atomic dipoles within the steel that is in the core. However, these losses are not significant but they get reduced due to the aluminum layers which are in an even position in the conductor.

The hysteresis loss is not so significant in the conductor and it also not occurs in the aluminum layers. However, these conductors include a different number of aluminum layers but the magnetization feature is being utilized to calculate the resistance of AC precisely.
