A Guide For Becoming Good Managers

Posted by Humane Design on July 10th, 2022

Management is defined in the business world as the process of people working together to achieve organizational goals.

Here are some tips on how to be an effective manager:

1. Know your people. As a manager, you need to know the strengths and weaknesses of your employees. You need to know what they are good at and how they can potentially contribute to the success of your organization. It allows you to easily delegate tasks to the right people to increase efficiency and productivity.

2. Improve your workforce. After identifying areas of opportunity for your employees, you should go ahead and recommend training programs and seminars that help them convert those weaknesses into strengths. For example, if they don't really communicate well with each other, you can offer them training programs to improve their communication skills.

3. Purpose. Be sure to include your employees when setting goals for your organization. When they know they are part of the whole process, these people are more likely to feel accountable and more likely to push themselves to do better.

4. Session. Establish regular meetings where you can discuss not only goals but also what you expect from your workforce. You can also use this time to raise concerns and answer burning questions.

5. Knowledge of human nature. As a manager, it is very important that you know how to work effectively with your employees. You should be friendly and cordial at all times. Employees shouldn't think twice before contacting you, and they need to feel safe sharing their thoughts with you.

There are many courses and information about time management. I don't want to compete with them here. I've read several books on the subject, including Stephen Covey's classic Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. But it happened to me last week that I learned something new about time management. Or rather, I read something that gave me a new insight, a new perspective. In fact, it is part of Jim Rohn's wisdom. It touched me so positively that I want to share it with you.

So how to become an effective manager of your time?

First we have to understand how precious time is. Your life doesn't last forever. The store of our days and moments is not endless. The main thing in life is to use it in the best possible way. Don't let them just slip away. Make the most of them. There is only a limited amount of them. You experienced 90 waterfalls in the nineties. When someone tells you, "I have 20 years left," you're saying, "No, you're only going to experience 20 waterfalls."

If you're used to fishing once a year, you can only go 20 times as much. This is where it gets a little critical. It's not like you have a full 20 more years, but you'll only experience 20 times more of everything. How much should it be worth 20 times? No matter concert tour, family reunion or holidays. It's just a fixed number.
