Rural development can be defined as the socio-economic changes that can lead to improved standard of living among the low-income areas. This in turn can make their progress self sustained. Rural development has been one of the major areas seeking attention with respect to overall development of India.

Infrastructure development has a fundamental role to play in both economic growth and poverty reduction. For the upliftment of the poor and the downtrodden, many charitable organizations in India are coming forward offering various schemes to improve their living conditions. Much has been also done in the field of medicine and healthcare. A few Charity organizations in Bangalore are setting up specialty health care centers to ensure best of medical facilities to the distraught.

The Sitaram Jindal Foundation is one of the premiere trusts in Bangalore which has constructed schools in more than 100 villages in Bangalore. That apart, this trust seeks to bring the basic needs of health, water and education to the houses of the poor.  With the aim to provide drinking water to the villages, SJF trust, Bangalore has dug quite a number of bore wells and provided overhead tanks across Karnataka. The SJF trust has been very active in not only constructing but also maintaining the school buildings. Old colleges or school structure were also taken under restoration by the trust.

Mobile clinic vans exclusively meant for immediate treatment to the poor who live in the far recesses and cannot afford to come to the city so frequently. These vans are completely dedicated to the health care of the needy and are fitted with all the latest medical equipments.

Apart from being a leader among the charitable hospitals in Bangalore, SJF trust has set up a vocational training institute, and quite a number of  training programmes are conducted here – namely,  -   typing, tailoring, embroidery, tie & dye, beautician courses, therapists’ course  and short computer courses etc.  The training institute came as an income generating option for the rural women. It is a matter of immense appreciation that because of such charitable organizations in India, women are being able to realize their dream of becoming self reliant through their own skill and talent in this part of the state.

Not limiting their sphere of work to infrastructure development alone, the foundation seeks to promote other charity organizations in Bangalore by giving them donations annually. More than Rs. 2 crores has been already spent by the foundation in the current financial year, merely to support the work of other organizations.
