Stay at a Vineyard

Mornington Peninsula is not just famous for its beaches, it’s also famous for the many vineyards that are inventing cool new wines for Australia. You can enjoy a truly relaxing holiday tasting reds and whites and touring verdant estates. There are Mornington Peninsula hotels located on or near vineyards to enjoy a truly luxurious stay.

Tour Best Parts of Port Phillip Bay by Ferry

There are many ways to enjoy the charming sights Port Philip Bay offers. But few can trump the absolutely breathtaking views visitors can enjoy with a ferry ride from Sorrento to Queenscliff on the bay. The huge ferries ride every day, every hour, and takes passengers as well as vehicles. Nothing gives a more intimate view of the bay than a ferry ride. You can take the ferry to spend a day or the weekend at Queenscliff and take the return trip back to Sorrento. Each ride is about 40 minutes.

Shop for Crafts at the Red Hill Market

Red Hill market is host to some of the earliest craft makers in Australia. The market is held on first Saturday of each month in the mornings during the summer. You can browse for unique new crafts to take home as souvenirs at 300 stalls. There are artisan bakers here as well, so you can enjoy tasty snacks while you shop. It’s also a great place to meet locals.

Visit an Art Gallery

Not everyone in the area is a surfer or a beach bum. Mornington Peninsula is home to a thriving local art scene. There are many galleries in the area that you should definitely take a look at if you are an art lover. One popular gallery is the Gordon Studio on Red hill. There you can see glass blowing demonstrations. If you have more contemporary or varied tastes, try the Portsea Art Gallery.

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding on a stunning beach is one of the most popular activities to undertake in Mornington Peninsula. You can trot and gallop with a beautiful horse on sandy dunes and tranquil bush tracks. You don’t need to be an accomplished equestrian to try this activity either. There are many local operators in the area who cater to the needs of both experienced and inexperienced tourists. Don’t forget to ride the horseback riding tours on St. Andrew’s beach that is just incomparable to anything else.

Try to Solve the Ashcombe Maze

Ashcombe Maze is actually one of the most popular tourist attractions on the peninsula. The maze was originally a small hedge maze, but now it has expanded and gotten more complex with rose bushes. The maze area is decorated with lovely lavender and flower gardens. The maze is challenging to solve, but it’s also too incredible to tour. A visit to the maze is a must if you want to truly enjoy the peninsula.

Next time you visit Mornington Peninsula, don’t limit yourself to the beaches and try one of the above activities.
