There’s a lot going on in Shoreditch, so whatever kind of thing you like doing, whether it’s theatre, fashion, shows or whatever, you’re sure to find something great going on there at all times of the year.

Here’s just a few things in Shoreditch that you might want to consider taking a trip to, if your trip allows it:

The Parish Church

If you’ve heard the nursery rhyme Oranges and Lemons, you might be familiar with this church. This 18th century church is a must visit, located at the easy to reach High Street intersection. It has quite a bustling community around it, so you will probably find a lot on there, which takes your interest. It’s worth a visit just to see its beauty.

Geffrye Museum

This museum is very unique, and it gives visitors an idea of how items, things, tastes and lifestyles have changed over the years. What’s also great about this place is that it’s free so if you have the kids with you and you’re after giving them a  bit of education, this might be a good place to start. You can visit from 10am to 5 pm and it is located on City Road - just 12 minutes’ walk from Shoreditch High Street and Hoxton Tube stations. This makes it quite easily accessible and a good quick-stop if you’’re trying to cram a few things in on one afternoon on your visit.

Curtain Theatre

This theatre was opened in 1577 and is a very interesting place to visit with family, friends or a partner. What’s interesting is that archaeologists uncovered some remains of the archaic theatre and it was the leading venue for Lord Chamberlain’s Men and Shakespeare’s Company. If you’re into your history, this visit could be a good place to put into your schedule when you visit London.

Victorian Entertainment

Shoreditch is the site of London’s first theatre so there is a lot to explore in the area if you are interested in historic entertainment. There are many local guides who, for a small price, can give you a walking tour of the area and discuss with you the many sites and delights of this historic part of London.

Performers in the street

Like much of London, you can come across random and non-scheduled performances at just about any time. Even the buskers in this beautiful city have a great amount of talent, and can be worth a stop and a listen. Keep your eyes peeled for different things going on at different times of year, too. It is a good idea to check the internet before you go to see if there are any seasonal activities taking place in and around the area. Christmas, for instance, can be a great time of year to visit if you’re in the mood for feeling festive in the capital.

Other tips for visiting Shoreditch

Restaurants and Cafes

While you’re in Shoreditch, you’ll probably want to stop off for some food or drink. There are plenty of places to visit in the area. If you’re there at night, there’s also lots of bars which you can stop off at for a much needed cocktail or pint of beer.

Safety

Like much of London, you should stay alerted to pick-pocketers or suspicious packages and other crime. However, Shoreditch is a generally very safe area to visit and you should feel safe walking around there, even at night. Make sure that you secure all valuables, such as your phone or wallet, out of the way so people can’t see it. Stay in groups if you can, rather than on your own, and alert local officers if you notice anything suspicious.

Where to stay

There’s also lots of hotels in Shoreditch, such as the Montcalm hotel Shoreditch which provides comfortable and luxurious accommodation for people travelling alone, as part of a couple or in a larger group. Beds are comfortable and rooms are quiet, and if you don’t want to venture out in Shoreditch in the evening, you can even order room service or take advantage of the excellent restaurant and bar on site. The décor in the Montcalm Shoreditch hotel, like all of the Montcalm hotels, is modern and fresh, perfect for the city traveller who enjoys a little modern luxury on their trip away.

Of course, there are plenty of other places in Shoreditch you might want to stay at. If you have a friend or family member living in the area, Shoreditch is very well connected and so a quick tube ride would have you at their place in no time.  This can make it a perfect base for exploring other areas of London too. Many people find that one weekend in London isn’t enough – even a week is too little time for some people! There are different things going on at all times of the year, as well. So, you’ll find the experience of shopping in Shoreditch different at Christmas time than at Summer time. It’s the perfect excuse to come back time and time again.

What to bring

Depending on what season it is, bring lots of layers of clothing and ensure you have the right money, cards and valuables like a phone and a camera to hand. You’ll also want to bring an umbrella, even if no rain is forecast!
