Rules for MCI Eligibility Certificate - Study MBBS in Abroad for Indian Students

As per the newly changed rules declared by Medical Council of India (MCI), the Indian student who wishes to study MBBS abroad should apply for Medical Council of India Eligibility Certificate. The eligibility certificate is a legal proof given by the Medical Council of India, that the Medical University which the students go to study MBBS in abroad is authorized by Medical Council of India.

By attaining an eligibility certificate even the students would be confident enough to complete her/his MBBS degree course of 5 years to come back and apply for Medical Council of India Screening test, which is also called Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). In the year 2013, the allotment of eligibility certificate was stopped for the reason being, there was too much of a back-log of issuance of this certificates. Many previous year students had not received their certificates because of delay in the Medical Council of India management system.

However, Medical Council of India has declared that those students who have already gone abroad to study MBBS, in the year 2013, 2104 and 2015 should also apply for the Medical Council of India eligibility certificate if they wish to appear for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination. So later, students should make sure that their local agency, who sends them to study MBBS in abroad, is applying for their eligibility certificate in Medical Council of India.

Since last 10 years, many local agents from India have been sending students to study MBBS in various countries like China, Russia, Ukraine, and the Philippines. However, since the last couple of years, there have been cases where some unauthorized agents send these students to low-quality medical universities which are not recognized by Medical Council of India. This is also one of the reasons, why the eligibility certificate has been mandatory for all the students, including those who are already studying abroad.
