Tips on women safety: Be Alert, Be Prepared!

The crime against women is on the rise in the world except in the United States where the crime rate against the women has fallen drastically. The rate of sexual violence against women in the US dropped nearly 60 percent between 1995 and 2010, according to a report by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics. It has been declining further with every passing year. Though it would be wrong to conclude that women in the US are safe and can let down their guard, but we must explore the reason for the above statistics. Indeed, the crime rate decline doesn’t mean that the predators are gone or reformed.

They are not. What has changed is that the women have started taking their own security rather seriously and thanks to modern self-protection spray cans and tasers they are able to defend themselves in a much better way. They do follow the expert advice on how to conduct themselves and many of them also attend the martial art classes.

Here are lessons to be learned, American women are now far more confident than say the Indian women who are still considered weak by the society. The perception emboldens the assailants who feel they can get away with it. The law enforcement being loose makes them even bolder. However, women could defend themselves if they keep a few things in mind.

First is that every assailant has two fears – one to be caught and second to be hurt. Take advantage of that. They would always choose a victim who looks timid and lost and doesn’t show a sense of purpose. Avoid all these things. Be mentally alert and do not allow anybody to come close even on some pretext like asking for way or time. Don’t hesitate to shout or speak up if anybody touches you in a bus or metro. Keeping a safety device like pepper spray can come very handy in these situations as it gives you enormous power which you can use to immobilize the predator. This self-protection spray has chili paste that can be sprayed on an assailant from 15 feet on his face. The predator no matter how well built will be reeling with pain on the ground within seconds. However, you must keep in mind that the effect of pepper spray last for around 15 minutes, so you must leave the venue immediately or call for help.

Another thing to keep in mind is that women security is not only under threat on the lonely alleys in the dark but even in places which you consider safe – homes, offices, classrooms, cinema halls, and so on could be equally threatening. You must be on your guard all the time every time. Make it a habit to be alert and equipped with safety spray so that you can take on any challenge.
