Do I Really Need to Visit a Dentist About My Tooth Pain?

Everyone has probably experienced tooth pain at least once. When does a toothache really need a dentist's help? Sometimes you may get surrounded by confusion about whether or not to visit a dentist about your tooth pain. This article may help you in making a sound decision. Usually, mild discomfort or sensitivity in the teeth, mouth or gums that does not last for more than one or two days may not be considered a serious dental problem. You may be able to address this issue with the dentist at your next regular dental checkup appointment.

A Normal Toothache

In case you are experiencing a slight toothache, and it is triggered by certain things you should have it examined by your dentist. A toothache can arise due to cavity or decay or from things like gum recession or food impaction.

Chipped Tooth

Your tooth can chip because of falling hard, trauma or injury. Trying to eat food that is hard to chew can also cause the tooth to chip. A chipped tooth needs to be addressed by your dentist immediately. If it is not treated timely it can develop into bigger problems.

Acute and Enduring Pain

Severe and lasting pain (lasting for more than 1-2 days) should be consulted with a dentist as soon as possible. It could mean the development of an infection inside the tooth.
