6 - Simple ways to Solve Garage Door Opener Problems

When your garage door opener is lacking, you need to find the causes and solutions quickly to fix the problem. You must be able to take your vehicle out of the garage to work and make sure your door is completely and securely closed. Here are the main causes that explain a malfunction, and the solutions to bring. Last time I had garage door rollers issue, I fixed it by seeing garage door videos on YouTube. Problems related to garage door rollers in USA can easily be solved by watching videos as I seen that most of the garage door companies also provide how to videos as well to fix the short and minor issues relevant to garage doors.

  1. Power supply and power failure

If the amber light on the detector / transmitter does not come on, make sure the garage door opener is receiving power; the sensor wire is not shorted or broken, and the inverter has been properly wired. If the green LED on the receiving detector does not illuminate, make sure that the detector wire is not shorted or broken, and that the inverters are aligned properly. Also make sure that the door control is properly connected (a message will be displayed on the screen if the installation and wiring of the control have been done correctly).

If a power outage has occurred in your area (or in your home only), simply turn off your opener by pulling on the emergency cord (red) and then raise your garage door by hand. If you have a latch (on the side of your door), lock the door with it and Do not forget to unplug your opener to prevent it from being activated (this could damage your door or door opener). It should be noted that some door openers are equipped with an emergency battery.

  1. Misalignment of the safety reversal sensors

The door will not close if the detectors have not been installed and aligned properly. If you try to close your garage door without success, it's probably because your photoelectric system is misaligned. If the light beam is obstructed or misaligned when the door closes, the door will turn back and the opener lights will flash ten times. If the door is already open, it will not close. The detectors can be aligned by loosening the wing nuts, aligning the detectors, and tightening the nuts. Make sure the LEDs on both detectors are lit. These will light up continuously if they are aligned and well wired.

  1. Battery of your remote transmitter flat

If your transmitter's battery is no longer charged, simply replace it. You can also use your numeric keypad (located outside the garage) that works the same way as a remote transmitter.

  1. The door movement stops or starts again in the opposite direction

Manually open and close your garage door. Check to see if something is sticking or obstructing the door (such as a broken spring or lock). If the door forces or sticks, call a technician specialized in repairing garage door opening systems. If the door does not force or stick, try reprogramming the race.

  1. Screw up and down buttons to screw

Your door does not close completely to the floor or does not open to the top.

Just use a screwdriver to tighten the screws of the Up and down buttons on the side of the motor. Consult the service manual (manufacturer’s instructions) or find this information on the manufacturer's website

  1. Noise problem

Your opener makes a lot of noise? Perhaps the noise comes from a broken spring, one of the two rails that would be misaligned, or the chain of the opener that would be released. As soon as you hear an unusual noise whose source you do not know, contact a garage door repair specialist so that he can correct the situation as quickly as possible.

To prevent malfunctions, open and close the door manually each month. If it is unbalanced or stresses, contact a specialized technician. Oil the rollers, bearings and hinges of the door every year. Do not grease the door guides. Every two to three years, use a rag to remove grease from the opener rail. Then, reapply a layer of white lithium grease on the surface of the rail on which the carriage is sliding.
