Pancreatic cancer presents high mortality rates in the U.S. The statistics are quite alarming, and that's why charities and foundations in Texas strive to change these statistics. They have set out to not only raise awareness of the disease but to also find ways to help detect it early and enable its cure. They organize tours around the country to help educate and engage the population during this Pancreatic Awareness Month.

The symptoms of pancreatic cancer are subtle and hard to diagnose. They are sometimes dismissed as not serious, hence increasing the mortality rate. Charities are committed to improving pancreatic cancer education, research, and healthcare. They need to raise awareness, with a mission to ensure that every pancreatic cancer patient has access to adequate information, care, and support.

Here’s why pancreatic cancer awareness is important:

•    It is a tough cancer to diagnose – Generally, pancreatic cancer diagnosis, treatment and survival rate is tough. The disease is an emergency unless something is done fast. The shocking survival statistics prompts awareness of pancreatic cancer which will necessitate early detection and treatment.

•    To help devise early diagnosis mechanism – Increased research into pancreatic cancer will help to save more lives. More funds are needed to invest in research for effective early diagnosis of the disease.  The potential of blood tests in identifying the disease and the implementation of better imaging technology that will detect it needs to be explored.

•    Faster treatment – The only treatment available for pancreatic cancer patients is surgery. Very many people miss out on surgery especially if they need it immediately and end up losing their lives. More treatment tools, techniques are needed to bring out life-changing results to this predicament. A lot more research is needed to help patients get their surgery fast and reduce the waiting time. This will ensure they get the opportunity to get treatment whenever they need it.

Pancreatic cancer awareness should be spread across the world to increase knowledge and get funding that will help in the cure of the disease.
