Selection of Blender

Posted by basshopper on February 24th, 2019

As with juicers, it is of course important to make clear what needs one has before you go to buy a blender. Buying too cheap and too expensive can be both stupid. But it is especially annoying to spend money on a blender that does not meet expectations and therefore ends its days at the back of the kitchen cabinet, so here are some tips on what to pay attention to when choosing your new blender:

Basic blender requirements:

Variable speed - like stepless regulation, otherwise at least 2 steps
Powerful engine power must be at least 1000 watts
The container must be angular or with ribs to ensure a good flow
The knife must be large and strong and bent at the right angles

Additional features:

Hours that automatically stop the machine after a certain period
Built-in programs for smoothies, juices, sauces, etc.
Noise suppression in the form of a glass jacket that is placed over the container

Speed
It is important that the blender can run at different speeds. Typically, you will start with a low speed just to crush and mix the contents a little.

The most common problem with blenders is that they run too fast, creating an air pocket around the knife, which results in the glare getting stuck because the ingredients just swim around in the container.

The problem is greatest if the mixture contains a lot of fruit, which can give a very fat or thick mass that is difficult to blend. The problem is well known for cheap blenders, and the solution is usually to stop and start the blender again and again to get the contents to collapse - alternatively to add more fluid.

If you have a variable speed blender, you can start slowly and then increase the speed as the contents become more homogeneous and creamy. Finally, the blender is allowed to run for a short time at high speed.

Effect
It is of course important that the blender is equipped with a powerful engine to crush ice cubes and frozen ingredients, which is a heavy load for the machine. The engine should have a power of at least 1,000 watts and preferably more.

Container
The design of the container is crucially important for the proper flow when blending. The container should never just be round, but there must be something that creates resistance. Therefore, most quality blenders are equipped with square or clover shaped containers.

The size of the container also has something to say - In general, it should not be too large, as it will then not be suitable for making single portions of, for example, 0.3 liters. If the container is too large, the contents will simply be thrown up the inside and only briefly contact the knife at the bottom of the container.

It is not of great importance whether the container is made of glass or plastic as long as it is free from BPA. Plastic can actually be an advantage as it does not weigh as much as a heavy glass container and is thus easier to work with. Plastic does not break if you drop the container on the floor.

Knife
The knife should only be equipped with two blades. If it has four blades it can be difficult for the contents to come down completely and get in contact with the knife, especially at high speeds you can risk for example the ice cubes just jumping around on top of the knife and not reaching completely and being crushed.
