Discussion Question

Question One

The class was comprehensive and involved an in-depth analysis of the interaction between the government, businesses, and the society. I appreciated the fact that the lecture used real-life examples when explaining concepts. The use of real-life examples provides students with a clear understanding of the concepts. Additionally, the methods enable students to grasp the concept rather than cramming and downloading it during examinations. For example when discussing the topic of government legislations, the instructor ensured that he gave examples of government regulations and their influence of companies. The instructor adopted the case study approach when covering different topics. He engaged students in the analysis of different concepts and applied them to existing organization. On the negative angle, the instructor should engage students more than he did. He should encourage class discussion rather than continuous lectures. Students can provide additional ideas to a topic under discussion. Additionally, class discussion eliminates the boredom of long lectures. I would also suggest that the lecturer provides students with additional assignments as a strategy of revising for the final exam.

Question Four

Money in politics is a serious problem as it causes a ripple effect in the society. Specifically, private money in the political realm comes with strings attached. The attachment revolves around favors that have a negative outcome in the society. Private individuals and interest groups finance political parties during election sessions. Critics argue that the private money encourages corruption and mismanagement of the government once the party candidate wins the election. The private contributors become shareholders of the party and impact, on the overall decision-making of the new administration. As a leader in charge of a government, I would call for accountability, in terms of money in politics (Weinberg, 2015). I would call for political parties to make public declaration of their funders. The call for transparency would push private funders to make genuine contributions or to pull away in case they had vested interest. I would also call for the placement of caps, in relation to the total amount of money that interest groups, lobbyists, and private individuals would contribute to a party.

Question Eight

Technology has eliminated geographical boundaries that confined people, governments and businesses to their localities. People have been able to engage in trade as a result of technology. Technology has eliminated the worry of physical distance that would otherwise hamper trade and communications. Businesses have embraced the internet and other technologies such as video conferencing as a platform for communication. Technology has improved business efficiency in many organizations (Olsen, 2005). Organization have embraced mechanization initiatives and thus attained a competitive edge over rivals who emphasize on the labor-intensive approach. Unfortunately, the emergence of technology has affected society and the sense of a personal touch. People lose interpersonal relations as a result of technology. Business and colleagues meet through the World Wide Web and hardly have any physical contact. Effective business operations require a degree of personal touch to enhance relationships. Technology has also increased the risk of confidential information through hacking. Organizations work hard to secure their systems. Unfortunately, hackers work twice as hard to infiltrate the secure organizational systems. Organizations face the risk of losing confidential information and intellectual property through technological platforms.
