Tips to prevent from Skiing Injuries

Ski injuries are not different than the injuries experienced by the people participating in any other sport or activity with same intensity. Risk of injuries is common in every sport. In skiing the harshness of injuries may be as paralysis or head injury or as scratches. Wound also occur but less than other sports.

The most common ski injuries are:

§  Fractures of the collar bone, hand, and leg bones.

§  Knee injuries

§  Pulled thumb tendon

§  Foot sprains

§  Spinal injuries

Given below are some tips to prevent ski injuries, which help skiers to have a pleasant and healthy ski trip.

  • Warm up your body before skiing as this is extremely important if you want to ski well.
  • Take a proper healthy diet every day
  • Do not ski, when you are feeling tired.
  • Take a proper skiing lesson, which should teach you how to turn, stop or control yourself during skiing.
  • Wear warm clothes to save your body form cold weather.
  • Wear a helmet to prevent head injuries.
  • Ski on the ski trails, which match your skills.
  • When you are going to take ski equipments on rent, check out their physical condition.
  • Use those ski equipments that suit your skills and size.
  • Do not drink alcohol before or during skiing.
  • Be aware of other skiers around you.
  • Take water or other fitness drinks with you when you are skiing.
  • Wear good quality ski boots, which must provide you warmth and control your body.
  • Face is the most delicate part of our body. Wear ski goggles while skiing to minimize face injuries.
  • Check out your bindings before skiing.
  • Keep your hands forward as this will help you to keep your whole body weight over your skis.
  • When you fall during skiing, do not try to get up if you are still moving.
  • Wear knee braces which are specially designed to protect you from knee sprains, and to recover knee injuries.
  • By wearing the wrist braces, you can protect yourself from wrist fractures.
  • By wearing gear you can minimize the risk of leg bones wound, and fractures.
  • Dislocations of shoulders often happen in bad falls. To prevent such injuries, use shoulder stabilizers that are easily available in the market. This will provide you a good pelvic support, and comfort from such a painful injury.
  • To avoid the foot, and ankle sprains, it is strongly suggested to wear an ankle brace to protect your ankle bones.
  • Spinal injuries are very rare, but if happen, are very painful. If you feel any neck pain, immediately tell your doctor. If you feel pain in your spinal, wear cervical collars that provide an additional support to your neck by controlling neck movements.
