Tips to Dress Kids Up for Wedding Parties

Children can be great wedding party attendees. But what they wear directly affects how much fun they have, which translates to adults having some awesome moments of their own to enjoy the dance floor, champagne, and social time before parents can leave earlier to put the cutest attendees to bed.

Here are some handy tips to dress kids up for the big day’s reception.

Want fail-proof?

Flower girl dresses are typically smaller versions of the bride’s dress—whichever the style and color. Ring bearers’ suits or kids’ tuxedos are smaller versions of the groom’s tux. Like men suits, kids’ tuxedos that come in rich blacks, greys, and blues are largely fail-proof.

Comfy does it

Whether you are looking at getting the best kids’ tux or flower girl dress, pay more attention to how comfortable the end product will be to the littlest gentlemen and ladies. Some details that’ll matter here include fit, material, weather/climatic seasons, and kids’ things to do during the party.

Dress or tux fit

They grow fast. The rule of thumb here is waiting up until 3-4 weeks before the wedding and wedding party to have the kids’ wedding wear made. Because they grow fast, and a fitting package now might be entirely small or have parts that no longer fit the child’s frame several weeks later.

Weather/climatic season of the wedding

Inviting kids over for the party will require you host it earlier than you otherwise would if you’d invited adults only. If it’s summer, the sun may very well be shining out there or the evening might be a little too warm to make kids a little fidgetier.

In case of warm weather, do choose lighter clothing to make the kids tux or dress. That way you’ll have the cutest wedding party attendees well-ventilated to enjoy a dance without taking most of the attire off.

Tux/Dress material

The opposite will apply if you forecast cooler weather on the evening of your big day; have the wedding wear made using warmer materials.

To rent or to buy kids’ wedding wear?

Consider your budget. Perhaps the children’s parents want their child to keep the attire and will offer to chime in or entire cater for the outfit.

Still, they grow fast. The ring bearer might not ever get to use that kids tux again, for example. So renting might make more cents sense, especially if you are working with a tighter budget.

If you do choose the rental route, though, you’ll want to assign an adult (preferably a professional or one of the children’s nannies) to help the little fellows play with their toys and munch kids’ wedding yummies without soiling the attire.

Lift them up

Help avoid little falls by giving little girls some room down there to make assured steps whichever side they want to move.

For little ring bearers, typically small boys, some brides, grooms, and the children’s parents choose shorts over long pants for the same reason. But you can still choose long pants. They look better than shorts, don’t they?

Either way, remember kids love a good dance on a wedding party’s dancefloor—or turning into airplanes and wiggling through dancing adults—so do remember to consider a tad less-fitting ensemble than the ones they had on for the wedding.
