The new program that can be introduced to my institution is the Transformative Student-Oriented Program aimed at enhancing student experience as well as facilitating the success for all students. It can be designed as an all-round program that touches on expectations in the school as well as after school, especially in the workplace. The program will be effective in ensuring that students understand their mandate and responsibility in the school and also value what they are taught as crucial in shaping their future life. From the program, students would have an opportunity to have a total transformation from mere students to effective career people who can provide solutions to the existing problems in the society. It will entail more of training, inductions, practical, and exposure to real life matters.
Determining the current need for the program
There are current needs that exist for the program that make it necessary to develop a method of addressing them. The needs for the program can be determined by observing the impact that majority of students have after leaving school and also gathering information from the departmental heads of the workplaces where the graduates are employed. In most instances, many of them are employed, and others start their business ventures. However, many who are employed do not enter the workforce with the expected skills and abilities as necessary in the real world practice. They have inadequate skills in the practical work since they did not have enough exposure to what is required in the workforce. Some of the graduates find it challenging to interact with other employees and also communicate effectively as required which limits their effectiveness in the workplace. Other graduates encounter challenges in fitting in the designated teams in various departments due to lack of the necessary skills. It does not take long before one determines the existing needs for the new program by observing and interviewing departmental leaders in various workplaces where fresh graduates are employed. The program should seek to address the issues highlighted to prepare students for the real world experiences. Other than teaching various courses and units, it is also important for institutions to offer additional training on nontechnical issues that affect individuals in the workplace. Enhancing student experience and facilitating success for all the students is not an event but a process that requires progressive training on the issues that affect them both at school and out of school.
Monitoring the progress
If the program is adopted, it will be necessary to monitor its progress. Monitoring helps the program administrator to confirm that it serves its purpose as expected and within the stipulated duration. Program monitoring will be essential for discussing the progress, identifying any further support needed, adjusting plans for training and assessment, and negotiating further opportunities for the program. The program will be monitored through holding consultative meetings with the stakeholders, addressing the weaknesses and providing solutions to them and using feedback to instill changes where necessary. As a new program, it is expected that there will be challenges in the adoption phase, hence necessary to have an open mind throughout the process. Among the methods of monitoring, the program will be through having consultative meetings with the students’ representatives, institution administrators, and the instructors to identify the challenges and chat the way forward. It will be necessary to discuss on every aspect of the program regarding its scope, content, mode of delivery, and the expected impact. The scope of the program should not only be limited to the school life but also the life after school and the workplace. The content taught in the program is an important factor of consideration in the monitoring phase to ensure that it meets the needs of students as they seek to succeed. The mode of delivery of the program should be appropriate for all students including those with special needs since it is aimed at benefiting all of them. The expected impact of the program is an important aspect to be monitored as to whether the program lives up to the purported benefits. Program monitoring will also be accomplished through addressing the identified weaknesses and providing solutions to them. Weaknesses are inevitable, but they can be minimized by doing things right. Since the program will be designed to benefit students, it will be appropriate to monitor it by taking feedback from them on its effectiveness to their experience and success. Students are the best people who can give a balanced view regarding the progress of the program since it affects them directly. Other stakeholders may give biased feedback since they do not actively engage in the program activities. The information gathered throughout the monitoring process should be used in the full implementation stage of the program to assess its success based on particular benchmarks. The use of self-reported data in the monitoring stage helps to fully understand the program and its effectiveness in meeting the expected needs.
Assessing the success of the program
After full implementation of the program, it will be necessary to assess the level of success as to whether it should continue in its nature or certain aspects should be changed. The assessment process will be performed through surveys, observations, and comparing the conduct and abilities of students before and after the program in the school and at the workplace. Surveys are the most common tools for program assessment and help to measure the effectiveness of the said program against its scope and objectives. The participating students should be well aware of their responsibilities even after leaving school and also have some skills and knowledge on what is expected of them in the workplace. The survey will be distributed at random to the participating students both in school and months after leaving school.
For direct observation, instructors will be tasked with composing a detailed report about the progress of the students in various study areas since the implementation of the project was started. The report should capture details of the students’ understanding of their responsibilities and also an achievement in class.
For the comparison aspect, it will be necessary to compare the conduct of the participants in the school and the workplace to assess whether the program had an impact on their lives. It is expected that the participants will have a different attitude, focus, and ability to handle things as before both in school and in the workplace.
