How to Become a Rideshare Driver

The ride-sharing economy now provides drivers with a side-hustle—and it’s proven to be quite lucrative to some. With more and more people passing on buying and owning a car, the popularity of ride-sharing services has grown at a phenomenal rate and it seems no signs of stopping any time soon. If you’re thinking about joining the trend, here are a few things you need to know to become a ride-share driver.

Know the driver requirements

Check the requirements for drivers. For instance, Lyft says its drivers be at least 21 years old and has an active U.S. driver’s license for at least a year. If you are qualified to be a driver, then proceed to the next step.

Get a car

You’ll need a car, Work at Home Wife says. If you already have a personal vehicle, you can use that. You won’t need to worry about shelling money to buy one. For some drivers, though, it can mean taking out a loan to get a car so they can join the ranks of ride-share drivers who earn money while they’re behind the wheel and stuck in traffic.

Pick the right one

Not so fast, though. Make sure you check the company’s vehicle requirements, the Business News Daily says. Does your personal vehicle meet key requirements set by the ride-sharing firm that you are applying to? You may need to buy a car if that isn’t the case.

Prepare the documents

If you are qualified and your car checks out, then the next step in the process involves the submission of your documents. Expect to provide the firm with a copy of your driver’s license and vehicle registration. The firm will also ask for proof of insurance, so prevent any delays by putting together all the documents you need as soon as you can.

Enroll in a course

Get ready to be a ride ride-share driver. Find out how when you sign up for a training course. That’s an easy way to learn the basics of the job. With a training program, you’ll know how the process goes, what you can expect and how you can maximize your hourly earnings, among other things.

Submit an application

Once you’re sure that you meet the requirements and you’ve undergone a training course to help you get ready, then it’s time to send an application. Whether you pick Uber or Lyft or other companies that hire ride-share drivers, you have a better chance of getting hired because of the training you undertook.

Pay for a car inspection

Make sure your car is in tip-top shape before you apply. It will need to pass a vehicle inspection. Companies like Lyft or Uber will ask about the inspection results.

Wait for word

That’s it. Now all you need to do is wait for word on whether you’ve been accepted and how soon you can start. If you’ve prepared your documents properly and you undertook that training, then you’ll probably be picking up your first passenger in no time.
