Reducing Hazards of Textile Processing to Substitute Enzymes by Chemicals

Posted by Anand Mehta on July 25th, 2019

Textile and fiber processing is a big industry in India that makes enormous contribution to the country’s economy. It also generates employment for a large number of workers. On one hand, this industry is a great revenue generator, but on the other hand, the hazards associated with industry cannot be ignored. When something is being processed, the chemicals are apparently used, and this is the major crux of the hazards.

Hazards of chemical-based textile processing

The textile and fiber processing industry is one of those industries that face this problem because the techniques used in textile and fiber processing are purely chemical-based, and these chemicals are hazardous substances in some or the other way. The issue is crucial because there’s a question of thousands of lives that deal with these chemicals in processing units. The effect of these chemicals is never absolutely eliminated, and sometimes cause harm to these who wear the products made from this textile. So, the hazards take millions more in their grip. The residue of used chemicals when drained in water further aggravate the problem by posing a major danger to the environment. The issue becomes more crucial when more and more lives are going to be affected every day and our eco-system is adversely affected.

Reducing hazards of textile processing

The techniques of chemical processing of textile and fiber are already under scanner of the government, and the efforts is being made to reduce these hazards, if can’t be eliminated completely. There’s always an appropriate resolution to every problem, and there’s no reason why hazards of textile and fiber processing techniques cannot be eliminated. The only thing this industry needs is to think of an eco-friendly alternative. So, what’s the best alternative? Enzymes are an eco- friendly alternative to chemicals in textile and fiber processing techniques.

Enzymes are best alternative to chemicals

Enzymes are natural substances that are produced within living cells because they are protein catalysts; they accelerate the speed of specific chemical and biochemical reactions and works as good as chemicals, and even better sometimes; they are less hazardous compared to chemicals; and they are eco-friendly and saves the environment. Thus, enzymes are better alternative to use against chemicals in the textile and fiber processing industry, as there is no dearth of enzyme manufacturers in India. Most companies produce high-quality enzymes that guarantee good results with their use in textile processing. In recent years, the use of enzymes has gained dominance over use of chemicals because of the advantages explored with the use of the former substances. The enzymes such as lipase, dextranase, phospholipase, pectinase, cellulase, amylase, papain, protease are produced in bulk for supply to various industries.

A big list of textile enzymes suppliers can also be found online through a search engine query.

Transition to eco-friendly textile processing

The industry has become more cautious towards deteriorating environment that has instigated to replace chemicals with enzymes in textile processing. This is a step ahead to improve the environment and to make the industry eco-friendly as well. The days are not far ahead when textile industry will make a transition to new techniques that will reduce hazardous to human lives.
