Commercial interior designing refers to the designing and décor of commercial spaces. It can either be customer facing store areas or back offices in the work place. The customer facing store areas have always been the focus of interior designing, since it is the design which attracts the customers to the store. There is a separate branch of marketing which deals with how the merchandise of the store should be arranged, so that customers feel delighted while shopping. This is known as visual merchandising. Although visual merchandising is not exactly interior designing, it should go hand in hand with the interior design of the stores.

In the last few years, there has been a special focus on the interior designing of back office workplaces. Since these spaces are not customer facing, business organizations seldom put thought into decorating them. However, the trend has now changed. Business organizations have now started investing in the designing of back office workplaces, with as much importance being given to it as is given to visual merchandising.

Interior designing of workplaces serves two purposes. The primary purpose is to make the workplace look chic and sophisticated. The look of the office walls and furniture should reflect the values of the company. According to research, people who spend hours in the workspace get influenced by their surroundings at the subconscious level. It is definitely a good opportunity for organizations to indulge in internal branding of their companies through interior décor.

The second purpose of interior designing is to use the science of factory layout to make the workplace appropriate for the work that is being done. The arrangement of the workplace should be such that the employees find it easy to work there, with an increase in their productivity. In fact, the interior design of the office should be considered to be very valuable to the organization as it affects employee satisfaction and helps in lowering the attrition rate.

However, it would be wrong to assume that all workplace designs should follow the same pattern. In fact, the modern generation of interior designers are experimenting with commercial interior design like never before. Unique patterns, arrangements, usage of colour, light and shade, is taking contemporary interior designing to untouched heights. It is definitely a very exciting time in the commercial interior designing industry. Today’s workers are also happy with the outcome of radical designing. This is because the interior designers are seeking feedback from their clients along every step and are incorporating their ideas into the final design. This approach is keeping the clients satisfied and happy with the final results.
