From Cold to Warm: Baby Must-Haves for Spring

Posted by aden + anais on February 25th, 2020

Spring can be hard to plan for when it comes to baby must-haves. Regardless of what a certain groundhog might predict, chances are, it’s going to go fairly quickly from cold to warm, and possibly repeat. That means it’s essential to plan for both temperatures and have the right sizes of clothes for your baby. There are a few other must-haves, as well, such as baby blankets, which will serve as a versatile tool in your parent tool chest. Here’s what you will need to combat the change in temperature and have a fun spring with your little one.

Baby Blankets for Versatile Travel or Play

One of the most important items to have, whether you’re stepping out on an adventure to the park or staying home and playing in the living room, is a receiving blanket. While the weather is still cold, you can wrap or swaddle your baby to keep them warm. When the thermometer goes up, it can double as a playmat. From the nursery to a picnic in the park, the blanket is a highly versatile diaper bag mainstay. You can also use it as a stroller cover for walks in the sun. Need an emergency burp cloth or changing mat? The blanket can double as both. If you choose a 100% cotton muslin blanket, it will be soft and have natural give, but still keep your baby warm. When it gets dirty, throw it in the washing machine, and it will come out even softer than before.

Hoodies for Easy Transitional Clothing

Hoodies are the perfect transitional clothing piece for spring. Your baby might still need a thicker jacket for the beginning of spring, and near the end, the hoodie may no longer be needed. During the majority of the spring, however, a hoodie will provide warmth without being too thick and overheating your baby.

Sleeping Bags and Pajamas for Varied Temperatures

You will need both winter and summer sleeping bags, also known as sleep sacks, for spring as the temperature changes. Be sure you have enough sleep sacks ready to go. If you feed your baby at bedtime, be prepared to deal with dribbles and either be ready for laundry or keep burp cloths close by. By the same token, you will also need long- and short-sleeve pajamas for your baby. As the season progresses, you will want to make sure you’re using a lighter material, such as cotton muslin.

Hats for Cold and Hats for the Sun

In spring, the transition for hats goes from knit caps to sun hats. Knit caps will help keep your little one warm, while a sun hat will give them shade when the clouds clear and the mercury rises.

Plenty of Short-Sleeved Onesies

Coming out of winter, you probably already have long-sleeve onesies. If you have been waiting to get short-sleeved onesies to gauge the right size, now is the time to start buying. You’ll need plenty of onesies to compensate for the fact that they will get dirty, and often.
