Konark Bureau: President Ramnath Kobind has nominated former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi for the Rajya Sabha. Gogoi's tenure as chief justice was about 13 and a half months. During this time many important and controversial cases were heard. The biggest decision was that Ranjan Gogoi delivered a historic verdict on the Ram temple. Gogoi retired on November 14 last year.

Gogoi made a historic decision in the Ram Mandir case. The verdict was heard by a five-judge bench headed by Gogoi. The Supreme Court has ruled that the disputed land in Ayodhya should be handed over to Ramallah Birajman and ordered the Muslim party to give 5 acres of land in Ayodhya. In addition, the court ordered the central government to set up a trust to build the Ram temple. The Supreme Court's ruling was welcomed by the country, but there was little opposition.
