Louie Lujan La Puente Mayor from 2000 to 2011 has always been an outdoor enthusiast. As Mayor, Louie Lujan always encouraged his constituents to get out and hike or enjoy a national park. Louie Lujan La Puente said that National parks are large areas of public land set aside for native plants, animals and the places in which they live. National parks protect places of natural beauty. National park is home to many endemic species. Louie Lujan believes that they protect places important to people, and places that show how people lived in the past.

Louie Lujan said that National parks are actually protected areas because “A clearly defined geographical space, recognized, dedicated and managed, through legal or other effective means, to achieve the long-term conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural values”.  Louie Lujan believes that while Louie Lujan is the Mayor of La Puente, it is important for him to preserve access to the outdoors. Louie Lujan said “that is precisely what makes national parks so meaningful to me…this summer, I went on a road trip with the singular goal of visiting as many national parks as possible.
