How to Keep Workforce Engaged and Connected When Working Remotely

Posted by Acordiscorp on May 23rd, 2020

Working from home has become the norm for many people these days because of the coronavirus. With working remotely comes the challenge of ensuring that your team remains productive and engaged. But most businesses are not prepared or simply lack experience in this type of working arrangement, resulting in severe disruptions. In some cases, social distancing may even make you or some of your team members feel disconnected.

If you are experiencing these issues or you are concerned about your workforce, here’s good news: There are many ways to remain productive and connected while social distancing. You can get creative and make staying in touch fun. Here are some ways to keep your team together and fulfill their social needs when working remotely:

Stay in touch

It’s important to have the right tools and cisco unified solutions to support your team as they work from home. This could mean investing in secure video conferencing and instant messaging platforms and collaborative file-sharing solutions. That way, it will be easier for everyone to transition to working remotely.

Establish new rituals

You and your team may have practiced regular daily habits in the office. Now that you are working from home, consider making new rituals and routines that make sense in the virtual setting, such as weekly virtual coffee, where your employees can talk about what’s going on in your lives.

Missing lunchtime socialization? Set up lunch dates with your team over video chat. You can also schedule team activities, like a weekly group meditation, a book club, attend a webinar, or read an article and let your team share their thoughts.

Communication has always been the core of maintaining connections, but during this time, it’s even more important. Don’t hesitate to over-communicate when necessary—which means reposting announcements and content or messaging several times on different platforms and channels your team uses to make sure that everyone gets them. You can do this by providing status updates every morning or on a specific day of the week to keep people connected and in touch.

You may also consider checking in frequently with your team and share any changes or updates in the business or follow up on announcements. You could be more open with your colleagues, too, if you are comfortable sharing to them. These could be anything from appropriate photos and videos of your pets, garden, what you are cooking, home office, etc. Consider sharing work from home goals with them, too, like studying an online course or a new language.

Maintain a schedule

Just because you are working remotely does not mean you or your workforce can always be available. That said, make sure your regular workday schedule still applies and that everyone should respect when each person ends their day virtually.
