Way to Remove Paint from Concrete

In this section, we will discuss different ways to remove dried paint from the concrete surface. You should be patient while implementing any of them, as you may have to repeat them a number of times before you can completely get rid of the paint. A few important methods that will help you with the task are discussed below:

Method #1: Use Paint Strippers

The most popular technique for removing paint from concrete involves the use of chemical strippers. You can use them on all kinds of paints, including waterproof ones. A number of different stripping agents can be found on the market. Soy-based strippers are considered as safe as they are non-toxic and easy to use. They're found in the form of a gel. Apply the gel to the paint and allow it to settle for a while. To some extent, this will loosen up the tough, dry paint. Then take a thick plastic scraper and remove the gel along with the paint from the concrete surface.

If the paint coat is thick, more than one application will be required. The best part of the chemical stripper is that you can reuse the same gel strip on the stain again and again. Once the maximum amount of paint has been removed from the concrete, rub the spot with a nylon brush after pouring some scouring powder and water to remove the soft paint residues. Finally, rinse the area thoroughly with plain water and you can get a free surface of concrete paint back.

Evitate the use of chemical strippers that are toxic in nature. They show quick action but are harmful to the eyes, the skin and the environment. If you want to use them on some stubborn paint stains, take all possible precautions. The area where it will be used should be properly ventilated and any furnaces or boilers or pilot light stored in the area should be switched off.

Method #2: The use of Shot Blaster

Shot blasting equipment can be used to remove sturdy paint from concrete quite effectively. This is a very expensive machine, and you can get it on rent from local home improvement stores. Its operating principle is quite similar to that of sandblaster. The only difference is that it throws away tiny metal beads instead of sand. The abrasive material forced out under high pressure on the affected surface of the concrete helps to remove the paint. It has a vacuum attachment, which then cleans the exposed beads, dust and paint debris by suction. The machine should be carefully moved to the concrete at such a pace that it does not strip off any concrete. Shot blowing often causes extensive damage to the surface of the concrete. Therefore, it should only be used in cases where paint stains are really bad. It is not recommended for concrete that is already cracked or chipped because its harmful effect can be so bad that you have to go for immediate concrete repair.
