Avast antivirus is a top-most antivirus with one of the most downloads among other security programs. Avast antivirus removes the existing malware from your device and prevents the system from all the incoming threats and cyber attacks. The reliable service of Avast keeps your device fully protected. Avast antivirus plans are available in both premium and freeware. Avast free antivirus has basic security tools like a virus scan, system junk clean etc. But sometimes Avast free antivirus won't open when your antivirus gets into some error. Error code 720 is one of the most common errors appearing in Avast antivirus.

Troubleshooting Avast 720 error code

Check the resource requirement of your Avast plan

Indeed Avast antivirus is available for various devices but every Avast plan has some specifications. You can install the Avast antivirus on your device only when your device fulfils all the requirements of your Avast. In case the user installs the Avast plan which is not compatible with the device the Avast 720 error will appear. If you are getting the error code 720 after installing the Avast plan then you need to check the resource requirements immediately. If you have installed an incompatible plan then uninstall it and get a compatible Avast antivirus setup for your device.

Check the registry files of your device

The broken registry files can also get your antivirus into error. Registry files are necessary for execution. If the Avast related registry files get corrupted then you need to repair the files. But you should only repair the files when you have the technical knowledge. Get the backup key for your Avast registry files and then edit the files. You can easily create the backup files by following the steps mentioned below:

  • Open the Windows device and click on the Start button
  • Type run on your search bar
  • Hit the Enter button
  • Windows Run bar will appear
  • Type cmd on the Run bar
  • Hit the Enter button
  • Windows command screen will be displayed
  • Type Regedit on the black screen (command screen)

Press the Enter button. You will get the Windows registry editor on your desktop. Now check for Avast error related registry files (Avast files) and save them with .reg extensions. Export the registry files to the desktop and then edit the files. Restart your devices and check for the Avast 720 error.

 Check the conflicting program

Sometimes the Avast error code 720 can occur when another program starts conflicting with your Avast. The conflict can appear with the malicious program or other security software. If you have another antivirus on your device then it may conflict with your Avast while detecting the malware. Go to your Apps folder and then search for another security program. If you have another antivirus then uninstall it from your device.

If the error 720 is appearing with another program that means the program is conflicting with your device. This kind of issue mostly appears with third-party programs. Go to your Apps folder and remove the conflicting program. Now restart your device and run Avast antivirus scan.

Remove all the junk from your PC

The temporary files of your device can interrupt various processes. These junk files seem harmless but can show various issues. Whenever you get any error on your device, you should immediately remove all the junk files from your device. You can directly go to the Temporary files folder and delete the files. For deleting other junk files, you can use the Windows clean manager. This inbuilt tool of Windows can remove all the junk files from your device at once. Follow the given steps for using Windows clean manager:

  • Go to the desktop and click on the Search bar
  • Type run and hit the Enter button
  • Windows run box will be displayed
  • Type cmd and on the run box and press Enter button
  • The command screen will appear
  • Type Cleanmgr and hit the Enter key

The clean manager tool of Windows will start running. This tool will automatically scan all the files on your device. You will see a list of checkboxes on your devices. Check the boxes you want to remove and click on the OK button. The junk files will immediately get deleted from your device. Now try to Run Avast antivirus and check whether the error gets resolved or not. If the error is appearing due to the corrupted Avast program files then you need to reinstall the antivirus.
