Maintenance law entrusted by the court

The alimony decided by the court of law in Singapore:

The Singapore law states that the maintenance should be paid by the husband to his wife after divorce and there is no claim that the husband can make towards the same. This is very stringently followed as per the law of Singapore. The points that the court considers would be as mentioned below:

  • The husband’s capacity of earning
  • The living standard that is lived on by the spouse
  • The living situation before the marriage
  • The occurrence of any loss in the course of the marriage
  • Contribution of the parties to the expenses of the household

There are many other issues that need to be looked into before the maintenance is decided. This would include the expenses of the child. The responsibility towards the child of the parents is a very important factor and this should not be overridden in the course of the divorce.

There can be a onetime payment made by the spouse if required; however, it is the court’s discretion where it would decide that the husband is capable enough to pay the wife. The husband if fails to pay the alimony then the wife can file the case based on the lawyer’s advice and based on the facts that need to be considered. This maintenance has to be paid to the ex-wife by the husband till her or his death or till she remarries. This can be done as aperiodic payment as well. It depends as to how the same is agreed upon and dealt with as per the section described by the court. At Singapore law firm, the staff is there to help you with the issues in the event of the non-payment of the alimony or if there is a miss in this regard. Even if the husband leaves to abroad he is bound to pay the ex-wife with the require amount that is agreed upon in the event of the divorce.
