Thantophobia is considered as a type of anxiety that has something to do with the fear of death, the dying process, or losing someone you love. This phobia can leave a person having a difficult time of coping with feelings of panic or worry and negative thought patterns.
It should be noted that thantophobia cannot be recognized in a particular diagnostic criteria that mental health experts use. Instead, its symptoms are paired with the diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder.
The word thantophobia originated from the Greek words thanato and phobia that mean death and fear respectively. Thantophobia is also called thanatophobia.
People who experience thantophobia often find that the symptoms they feel are aggravated or triggered every time their thoughts drift to dying or death.
Thantophobia also has physical manifestations such as frequent panic attacks and increased feelings of anxiety. People may also experience dizzy spells, sweating, nausea, and heart palpitations.
