Role of Interaction Design in Digital India

Accounting to the technological evolution, we live in a world where cars can drive themselves, order anything with a click, people can transport into a virtual world or augment their realities, or get someone to do the laundry by just placing a request over an app.

It might have sounded unbelievable two decades back. We have evolved and come ahead in leaps and bounds within a few years regarding technology and dependence. New challenges require new technology.

People need to ‘innovate’ and design technology keeping humans as the primary focus. Interaction design is often mistaken for UX design. However, interaction is merely a part of the user experience.

Interaction designing comes to play in every instance where humans need to interact with other humans, machines, devices, etc. Engineers, while creating software, aim to meet the functional requirements. The focus was never on the cognitive side; thus, we came across software confusing users and reducing productivity. Despite humans adapting to machines, machines must be designed to adapt to humans.

Interaction design (IxD) has a role in accelerating digital growth in India. Complicated banking systems, application portals, bill payments, redressal forums, complex medical systems have prompted revolutionary solutions from a technology and a design perspective.

Make in India and Digital India are movements playing the role of uniting the country under the digital umbrella. We need to match the level of digitalisation to adopt interaction between digital products and users.

Seamless banking, simple access to information, availing healthcare facilities or digital payments require integration of good interaction design to boost Digital India and Make in India campaigns. In this digitalisation trend, an interaction design course can lead you to a future proof career in India.

The impact of interaction should not be neglected while creating digital access in several sectors. All the sectors require the integration of technology with an amalgam of interaction design. Going digital saves a tremendous amount of effort and money with systems like booking an appointment, bill payments, diagnostics, etc. To achieve the adoption of these services widely, we need to build systems that are easy to interact with and understandable by the varied mindset of the Indian population. Even the population with a lower literacy rate and high poverty must be kept in mind by an interaction designer.

Another prominent example of interaction design lies in building more smart cities. Typically, smart cities’ development brings a boom in technology by promoting cloud-based services, real-world UI, IoT, smartphones, etc., leading to a growth of interaction design.

India has several complex problems, but every problem arises an opportunity. The interaction designer justifies the kind of research and solutions India requires. Hence, with a Bachelor of Design degree majoring in interaction design, you can play a huge role and bring positive change via better products. As an interaction designer, you can create a seamless experience with holistic solutions addressing unique user needs.

If you are still not convinced, check for technology and ask yourself, “Can someone use this easily?” That's the core behind the concept of interaction design, usability, and ease of use. If not, then there is a dire need for interaction designers.
