The beaches of the Punta Cana region

Posted by Caribbean Casas on June 12th, 2018

Located on the easternmost part of the island, the Punta Cana region is most well-known for its 35 miles of palm studded beaches. This, combined with warm weathers, is the reason that thousands of tourists flood to the area year after year, staying either in the numerous hotels or a villa with a pool in the Dominican Republic. The beaches here are arguably some of the most spectacular on the island.

The beaches of the Punta Cana region

In general, the sands are both the whitest and the softest around the Playa Bavaro region, and the further down the coast you travel towards Cap Cana, the more rocky and wild the beach becomes. Below you can find some of the beach beaches in the Puta Cana region that are easily accessible.

Playa Bavaro

This is one of the most touristy beaches, but it is clear to see why. The sand is powdery white and seems to stretch on for miles, lined with coconut palms. The beach is easily accessible along a public road, with a large car park at the end. There are also numerous gift shops and markets.

Arena Gordo

This beach is also known as the Fat Sand Beach, as the beach itself is very wide and gently sloping towards the sea. The area is great for paddling due to shallow water, and this helps to give the water its stunning blue hue. Public access can be a bit tricky, so it is best to get a Dominican Republic vacation rental in the area.

Cabeza de Toro

This is the beach for nature lovers, as it is surrounded but the forests and wildlife of the Punta Cana region. An abundance of activities can be found here, such as horse-riding though the forests at the Natura Park eco-resort, or playing golf at the Barceo Bavaro golf course.

Juanillo

This is a stunning secluded beach in the Cap Cana area, complete with beach front restaurants, cabanas and lounge sofas. You are even able to buy fish from the local fishermen who cast their lines out on the waterfront. If you have a villa in the Dominican Republic nearby, you will never want to leave.

Macao Beach

Around 20 minutes from Bavaro you will find Macao Beach, and you will see its golden sands spread out before you as you drive over the hill towards it. If you are interested in surfing, there is a surf camp here, as well as many restaurants located right on the beach.
